Sunny Cottages

Beautifully furnished hideaway cottage in the Cotswolds. The terrace of Sunny Cottages is thought to have been built around 1600. No one is sure, but it has a Grade II listed status in recognition of its age. The stone floor in the sitting room, the fireplace and the beams are thought to be original.

This self-catering cottage offers exactly what you would expect of an old cozy English country cottage. The front door is a “stable door”, it is possible to open the top half whilst leaving the bottom shut. The ceilings are low as people were shorter then! The sitting room is dominated by a large fireplace, now with a wood log burner (we supply the first bucket of logs). There is also a traditional window seat as well a comfy sofa and wing chair. Less traditional, but essential, is central heating and wifi as well as a TV/DVD player with many channels. The kitchen has a hob, oven microwave, dishwasher and a surprising amount of storage space for a small cottage.

On the first floor is bedroom with a large double of twin beds with fitted cupboards and a view across the valley. You will sometimes literally see sheep from your bedroom window! A modern bathroom and shower is next door. The second floor opens to the second bedroom, that can be a double or twin, with its own en-suite shower and WC.

Turn right out of the kitchen door, past two small gardens, and there is a wooden gate with ”3” on it. Go in and a large garden awaits you, with a sun terrace and a stone barbecue hidden at the top right-hand corner. The garden behind the cottage does NOT belong to the cottage, we have the one three along. Why this strange arrangement? The first Crown surveyors were returning soldiers found jobs after returning from the Crimean War in the 1860s. The problem was that they couldn’t read or write so their drawings were totally inaccurate!

***** Well equipped and Characterful Cottage

'Mark’s place is a cosy, well-equipped and characterful cottage with everything we needed for our two night stay. The village of Naunton is very pretty and peaceful and perfectly situated for exploring the Cotswolds generally. The Black Horse pub, a few steps away, was friendly and served goo'd food too! Mark provided lots of useful information for the cottage and local area so everything went smoothly. A great choice for a quiet stay in lovely surroundings
